Trudy, Available At Last!

Perhaps it's best that Trudy's abnormal blood results held her back from adoption before Christmas. I mean, just look at her, she looks like she should take about 4 double A batteries, but she is not a toy. She is a real doll, though. Friendly with people and other dogs, sweet tempered and her bloodwork is normal now!

Trudy is available through Speaking of Dogs Rescue, you can find more info and see if she is still available by visiting speakingofdogs.com.

Chester Needs A Foster Home

Chester is a friendly, happy go lucky puggle (pug/beagle mix) looking for a foster home in the GTA. He will need a quiet home with few or no stairs while he undergoes treatment for heartworm. He is house trained, crate trained, quiet, good with kids, dogs and cats. Don't worry, heartworm is not directly contagious, it is carried by mosquitos.

If you think your household would be a good place for Chester to recuperate, please contact Speaking of Dogs Rescue.

Huck, The Handsome Hound

Handsome Huck is a very youthful and active, 7 years old. He is friendly with people and other dogs and is looking for a home in the Greater Toronto Area. If you are interested in learning more about Huck or would like to fill out an application, visit his page on the Speaking of Dogs website.

Satin

Satin is a bit of a wild child. All she wants is to be near you...she just hasn't been taught how to do it properly. Instead of snuggling in, she jumps all over us, barking and yelping in her excitement. Let's help find Satin an awesome (and patient) family who can help turn this "Eliza Doolittle" into a proper lady through positive reinforcement, exercise and love!

Smart young dogs like Satin need the most training to help mold that intelligence into a force for good, otherwise it will just help them get into more trouble.

I think Samantha Fox put it best, back in 1988 when she reminded us that "Naughty Girls Need Love, Too".

She is not this calm, I am just that fast ;)

The Kittens of Kismutt

I recently visited Kismutt Rescue in St. Mary's and was extremely impressed with the facility. Kimberly runs a rescue/boarding kennel/animal control shelter that is bright and clean with spacious indoor and outdoor spaces and happy dogs running around all over the place. Although Kismutt rescues dogs from other municipalities and shelters, one of their main focuses is saving dogs from the local Amish puppy mill industry. (There is a very dark side to these seemingly charming and quaint communities, where animals are treated as objects, with no regard for or recognition of their pain and suffering). Kimberly has spent years developing relationships with these people so that they will allow her to rescue sick, injured and aging dogs from them, rather than "culling" the animals when they have ceased being useful and profitable. For more information on Amish puppy mills and Kismutt's work in opposing them, click here.

Although they are a dog rescue, Kismutt did not turn away the pregnant cat that showed up on their doorstep and I got to photograph her adorable kittens who are now looking for homes.
