2024 Canadian National Image Competition

I've been waiting to announce my scores in this year's Professional Photographers of Canada National Image Competition, to see if I was a finalist for any awards, and it was worth the wait!

For the 5th year in a row, I am a finalist for National Photographic Artist of the Year. Maybe this will be my year (probably not, you should see the competition! )

My photo of a chonky kitty, titled "My Mom Says I'm Big Boned" scored Excellence and is a finalist for Best Animal.

My mixed-media digital painting of a Newfoundland Pony, titled "Free Spirit" scored Excellence and is a finalist for Best Fine Art.

The adorable Havanese puppy, Willow, scored Merit and is a finalist for the Terry Robertson Masters Award. (Image titled "The Mighty Hunter Returns").

...and a house many Alma, NB locals will recognize (and will know that this is an older photo, because it has collapsed a lot since then), "Blooming Decay" scored merit and is a finalist for Best Pictorial/Floral.

I was a little disappointed that my personal favourite, "Harlequin Romance" only scored accepted, but it was recognized at the Eastern Regional Competition in the fall, with a score of Excellence, a Judge's Choice, and a Best in Class for Conceptual Illustration, so I can't complain. Image competition can be a subjective and fickle beast! I do feel the need to scream from the rooftops at this point that it is a Harlequin Great Dane - I'm not sure most of the judges got that part and I still think it's damned clever.

Good luck to so many of my PPOC friends who are finalists as well!

Now we must wait for the awards gala at the Canadian Imaging Conference and Expo in Victoria, BC in April!
