Auston in Autumn - A Golden Retriever in Centennial Park, Moncton

Autumn is one of my favourite times for outdoor dog photoshoots. The stunning fall foliage here in New Brunswick makes a beautiful backdrop, and cooler temperatures make it more comfortable for most dogs. It’s easier to get those mouth-closed, tongue-in shots when they aren’t hot and panting. Added bonus, fewer mosquitoes!

I like to start most of my dog photo shoots with some running shots to help the dog burn off a little energy before we start asking them to sit or stand still.

Auston the Golden Retriever had his fall photo shoot in beautiful Centennial Park, Moncton. He was a young, high energy dog, so we had to keep moving and not let him get bored.

Two photos of a golden retriever behind a branch covered in red leaves. In the third photo in the sequence, the dog is trying to eat the branch.

Auston still had some energy left for landscaping, even after all the running!

Auston was ok sitting in one place for a few shots, but he really liked to keep busy and if we didn’t give him something to do, he’d find something on his own!

Looking calm, at last … though I assure you, it was very brief!

This photo of Auston in the fall leaves is one of my all time favourite photos. It even won a National Best in Class for Animals in the Professional Photographers of Canada Image Competition that year!

Golden Retrievers were made for fall photo shoots!

You really can’t beat fall colours as a backdrop for a golden dog.

This is the portrait Auston’s family chose to print large for their wall. On the left, you can see the mockup I made to show how the image would look in their actual living room, and on the right, Auston sitting under his finished portrait, hanging on the wall.

Serious … and also a little goofy! It’s important to me to capture the dog’s true personality - they can’t all be perfect, posed, “picture day” shots!

We have a very large and excited golden retriever. Tracy was so good with him and managed to get some absolutely amazing shots of him that captured all of his personality. Tracy is super easy to communicate with and made the whole process easy and exciting. Highly recommended!!

Two of my favourite ways to show the connection between dogs and their people, even when the people don’t want to be in photos. A waist down shot of the dog standing or sitting between his people, or reaching out to shake a paw.

Some lovely pinks in the sunset by the pond in Centennial Park, as we made our way back to our cars at the end of Auston’s session.
