2020 Photographic Artist of the Year
My image titled “Modern Family”, depicting 2 yellow labs, a cat, a rooster, and 4 sugar gliders sitting on a sofa underneath their own portrait won the Bruce Berry Award for Best General Print, Best in Class for Animals, and a Judge’s Choice Award.
I’m still a little stunned to announce that I have won the title of Professional Photographers of Canada Atlantic Region Photographic Artist of the Year for third year in a row! In addition, I also took home the Bruce Berry Award for Best General Print, 3 Best in Class Awards in the Fine Art, Pictorial/Floral, and Animals categories, AND all 3 of those images were selected for Judge’s Choice ribbons as well.
My image of an Ayam Cemani rooster, titled “Black To the Bone” won Best in Class for the Fine Art Category, and a Judge’s Choice Award. Ayam Cemani chickens are the most melanistic (heavily pigmented) animals on earth. Their skin, meat, organs and bones are all black!
My image of a canoe on a glassy lake at sunset, titled “Smoke on the Water” won Best in Class for Pictorial/Floral, and a Judge’s Choice award. I originally photographed this scene of Bennett Lake in Fundy National Park, NB a few years ago, before I moved to the area. It finally caught my eye this year, when I was looking for a landscape to enter into competition!
This image of an adorable Rottweiler puppy at sunset in Riverview, NB was titled “Dog Meets World”, and was my fourth accepted image. To be eligible for Photographic Artist of the Year, one has to have all 4 of their images score at least “Accepted” in the competition (which is not an easy feat), and even then your scores have to be high enough, and your work must show enough variety to be considered for the award.
