I hear a version of that on almost every single planning call. And almost every single time, that same dog ends up on the family’s wall a few months later. Maybe your best friend is reactive, or deaf, or behaves like a freight train without brakes. Maybe you're picturing a stiff, staged, “school picture day” style photo where they look nothing like themselves. Probably, you think this won’t work for your unruly, unphotogenic pet(s).

Let me tell you a secret…

My own pets are not well-trained or particularly well-behaved, and your pet doesn’t need to be either. I only need 1/8000th of a second, and a lifetime of reading animal body language to know what’s coming next.

I spent over 25 years nurturing the human-animal bond while working as a veterinary technician in busy, urban animal hospitals and shelters in Toronto. Learned to read fear, comfort, trust, and the half-second before a dog decides to bolt, long before I understood shutter speed. I truly believe that my understanding of animal behaviour is the real reason this works, not my skill with a camera.

I am committed to using positive reinforcement and heaps of patience to create a fun session experience for your pets, resulting in images that showcase their true personalities and capture every beloved detail.

I understand your pet, and I understand how much they mean to you.

My first word was “cat”. As a little girl, I never dreamed of getting married and having babies; I fantasized about having a monkey and a koala bear. I didn't have imaginary friends; I had imaginary pets.

For many years, my partner (and lovely assistant!), Graham and I explored Canada by car with a tent, a camera, and our 2 tiny dogs. After seeing it all, Atlantic Canada kept drawing us back, and in 2018 we escaped city life for good, relocating from Toronto to the beautiful Bay of Fundy Region in New Brunswick to pursue pet photography full time. We’ve never been happier. Neither have our dogs.

Eight years in, I’ve earned my Master of Photographic Arts designation through PPOC, and I've spoken on animal behaviour for photographers at conferences in Winnipeg and Victoria. I've published two coffee-table books, featuring dogs photographed against our beautiful coastal scenery, and I’m working on my third right now.

I’ve always loved problem-solving, and I’m easily bored. That’s why the challenge of photographing sometimes unpredictable subjects in the ever-changing coastal light and volatile Atlantic Canada weather is where I find my joy! I can’t imagine doing anything else.
